The Bible tells me that God the Father created the heavens and the earth. The New Testament tells me that God the Son created all things (Col. 1:16). And in these first few verses of Genesis I read, “The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” So God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit all played a part in creation. In the Book of Genesis one of the names used for God is Elohim, which is a plural form of the name El. It doesn’t indicate more than one God, but is a unique word describing the triune nature of God. In creation we see the Trinity—Elohim—in action. One God existing in three persons, each of whom had a distinct role to play in the creation of the universe.
